The Brewers were swept by the Rockies in a three-game set at Coors Field in Denver. The Rockies win the season series over the Brewers, 4-2.Monday - Rockies win 6-2: The Rockies started fast in this game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning against Claudio Vargas. Todd Helton singled home Kazuo Matsui with two outs for the first run of the game. Then, two batters later Brad Hawpe hit a three-run homer to finish up the scoring for that inning. Prince Fielder lead off the second with a solo homer to get the Brewers on the board. In the bottom of that inning, Matt Holliday hit a two-run home run to give the Rockies a 6-1 lead.
Vargas then pitched five scoreless innings but it was too little too late for the Brewers. Ryan Braun hit a solo home-run in the fourth inning to give the Brewers their last run of the game. Josh Fogg pitched seven innings and gave up two runs to pick up the win for the Rockies.
Tuesday - Rockies win 11-4: Chris Capuano was looking to end his eight-game losing streak and was unable to do so. Capuano gave up four runs in five innings and picked up the loss. The Brewers got out to a 3-0 lead via three sacrifice flys. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Rockies picked up two runs to chase Capuano from the game. Carlos Villanueva came in for the Brewers and allowed three more runs to score.
The Rockies picked up another run in the seventh run with a homer by Todd Helton off Scott Linebrink. The Brewers were still in the game so to speak in the bottom of the eighth but the Rockies picked up five more runs in that inning off Brian Shouse and Chris Spurling. Helton, Garrett Atkins and Ryan Spilborghs each had three hits for the Rockies. Helton also had three RBI for Colorado.
Wednesday - Rockies win 19-4: Rookie righty Yovani Gallardo has been the Brewers' best starter since rejoining the rotation. On Wednesday though, Gallardo ran into big trouble as he gave up 11 runs in just two and two thirds innings of work against the Rockies. He also gave up 12 hits and struck out just one, very unlike Gallardo.
Here are the gory details from the box score. Matsui went 3-4 with two RBI and four runs scored. Troy Tulowitzki was 4-5 with two doubles, a homer, four runs and three RBI. Holliday went 2-3 with two RBI and two runs. Atkins was 4-4 with two doubles and six RBI. Spilborghs went 3-6 with three runs and a homer. And finally, Yorvit Torrealba was 3-6 with three runs scored. Prince Fielder hit his 34th home run of the year for the Brewers. Jeff Francis picked up the win for the Rockies. He pitched five innings and gave up three runs while striking out five.
